Johnny Ramirez
Houston, Texas

Johnny Ramirez won The Big Squeeze in 2008. He has been playing the accordion since he was 4. Johnny Ramirez graduated from Houston's John H. Reagan High School. He cites Jaime y Los Chamacos as his favorite conjunto. Stylistically, Ramirez has been heavily influenced by Jaime de Anda of Los Chamacos and the late Johnny “El Brujo” Cruz of Rosenberg, Texas.

He continues to record and perform in the Houston area with his own style of Tejano and conjunto, with influences from his late father, Herminio Ramirez, who had a musical career in Mexico in the tropical style.

In 2013, Ramirez served as a judge for The Big Squeeze finals at the 24th Accordion Kings & Queens Festival. Later in the summer of 2013, he released a self-produced CD. Ramirez has often performed alongside Keyun Dickson, zydeco artist, for our Big Squeeze events. Website
