Patton Stories 2020

Texas Folklife participated in the annual Patton Arts Day on March 13, 2020. We worked with schools to distribute cultural survey to the students, and choose six students' stories to record. The six "Patton Stories" cover the students and their families traditions and customs. The finished audio stories are based on interviews with the students and their parents, and feature customs based in India, Ireland, Mexico, El Salvador, and more.
Listen to the "Patton Stories" on the Texas Folklife Soundcloud and YouTube channel.

Thank you to the students and their famliies for participating!

Patton Elementary is a large elementary school with a small school feeling, and has served the South Austin community since 1985. The Patton PTA allocates money for Arts in Education; the PTA funds different assemblies throughout the year and have one day of school dedicated to the performing arts – the annual Patton Arts Day Festival. This year’s Patton Arts Day Festival theme is “We ARTogether.” Texas Folklife is excited to be part of this annual tradition!

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
