    The annual Stories Summer Institute was June 17-21, 2019. During the Institute, participants crafted stories with instruction and guidance from audio radio producers and a guest folklorist instructor. Participants enrolled from education and nonprofits backgrounds and created four unique audio stories about "Women in the Austin Music Scene." The intensive workshop covered radio production, such as interviewing, logging, and sound, and also the folklore tradition of storytelling.

    Join us at the Texas Folklife Gallery on Tuesday December 3rd as we close out Giving Tuesday and prepare for the 5th Annual Festival of Texas Fiddling. The $10 entry fee will go towards our Giving Tuesday fundraising goal. Refreshments will be provided and live music will be provided by the Shinbone Alley String Band.

    The Austin arts community is well aware of the creative space issues we face, so we are working together to propose potential solutions.  Over the past year, creative space needs have been discussed at monthly meetings by a small group of representatives from interested nonprofit arts groups and businesses, artists, and educational institutions.

    Texas Folklife announces the opening of the exhibit La Música. La Música features paintings by Roel Flores, an artist from Weslaco, Texas. La Música centers on the musical symbols and icons of Tejano music. There are portraits of Tejano legends Flaco Jimenez and Valerio Longoria along with landscapes of the Rio Grande Valley sprinkled with accordions. Flores love of music began when he was only 6 years old and has stayed with him throughout his life.
