Texas Folklife will be participating in Amplify Austin Day! Amplify Austin is an annual 24-hour campaign in which the residents of Central Texas give back to the communities. This campaign is a fun way to support Texas Folklife. This year we are raising $5000 to support our many programs that support Texas traditions and customs. Support Texas community and education by donating here! Thank for being a Friend of Folklife!

DONATE DURING OUR POWER ON MARCH 5 FROM 9-10 PM! YOUR DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED UP TO $600! Tune into our Facebook Live event at 9 PM to see live performances including Accordionist Ricardo Cabrera and Apprentice Bootmaker Dana Perrotti. We'll be updating you throughout the night about the ways to support Texas Folklife.

New to this year’s campaign, supporters can choose to donate directly to each of our main programs they feel most passionate about. The 14th annual Big Squeeze Accordion Contest just announced its dynamic 2020 event lineup featuring youth competitions, live concerts and music workshops in traditional Texas accordion music genres including conjunto, polka, Cajun, zydeco and more. The winner of this contest gets to perform among stellar talent at the annual Accordion Kings & Queens concert, celebrating its 31st year in June. The prestigious Apprenticeships in the Folk and Traditional Arts Program supports the continuation of Texas traditional arts through mentorship, artist development and organizational support; 2020 awardees were also recently announced! The award-winning Stories from Deep in the Heart, a youth media, folklore, and technology literacy program that trains students and teachers to research and produce audio documentaries about their own families and communities for public radio and online outlets. In the last year, we were able to extend the Stories program, with the support of Creative Forces, to impact the communal and mental wellbeing of Texas veterans and their families. Year round we feature Gallery Exhibits that spotlight native Texas folk arts, Texas-related themes, and explore the variety of communities that exist in the Lone Star State. Overall, with this campaign we aspire to reach new audiences and spread awareness about our impact in Austin communities and the many resources we offer statewide as Texas Folklife.
