Have you ever wondered what the commotion is behind all the merchandise with random numbers, characters, and spanish names on cards, that everyone around seems to wear and enjoy?

-What you see printed and sold like candy are Mexican Loteria Characters.

 

You are invited to join 2022 Community Folklife Fellow Ayme Pena, an aspiring artist whose main goal is to promote the archiving of traditions and oral histories of the community voices by hosting the "Chalupa y Buenas" workshop. This Mexican Independence Day allow yourself to immerse into a different culture by joining the traditional Mexican Game of Chance LOTERIA. 

There will be a short presentation followed by an afternoon of Mexican Loteria fun with refreshments and prizes. Grab your “frijoles” and press your luck at this Mexican Game of Chance.

About the Community Folklife Fellowship

The Texas Folklife Community Folklife Fellowship program is a statewide, NEA-supported pilot program that provides training in oral history, interviewing, audio storytelling, archives, and podcast production for adults. Participants learn to document community traditions in their own cities and towns throughout the state, through workshops and community partnerships. The program seeks applicants from diverse regions and communities of the state of Texas.
