Not Just OOM-PAH Weekend 


Concert Friday April 5th: 

The Not Just OOM-PAH! Accordion Concert on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 6:30-9:00 PM at Central Market North, 4001 North Lamar Blvd, features Jamie Maschler (Forro and Latin styles) and Rachel Bell with Karen Axelrod (French, Celtic, and English Folk). The concert is FREE and open to public. 

Accordion Workshop Saturday & Sunday April 6th & 7th:

Our Featured Accordionists will be presenting an Accordion Workshop on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 & 7, 2019 from 8:30 AM- 5:30 pm at Lamar Senior Activity Center, 2874 Shoal Crest Ave., Austin, TX 78705. The workshop will consist of a series of 11 sessions plus a Folk Dance Session. Jamie Maschler will be teaching Forro and Latin Jazz. Her sessions will include several rhythms of Brazilian Forro such as Baiao, Xote, and Arrasta Pe; how to play Latin comping patterns when playing with others; and Improvisation. Rachel Bell will be teaching French, Celtic, and English Folk music. Her sessions include Bal Folk and Fest Noz (dances from Central France and Brittany); and Composition basics. Some of her tunes will be taught by ear, so you get a little taste of that too! (Music will still be provided.) Workshop registration is required. $175 for Accordionists, $60 for Non-Accordionists. Lunch is included both days.

Also one youth scholarship will be awarded for accordionists who are 18 years or younger. Applicants will find those forms online at the website as well, or email me and I’ll send you forms. Deadline for Youth Scholarship Award application is March 1, 2019.   

Folk Dance Session Sunday April 7th:

On Sunday afternoon workshop participants will accompany Rachel Bell and pianist Karen Axelrod in a Folk Dance Session that is open to the general public. 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Lamar Senior Activity Center, 2874 Shoal Crest Ave., Austin, TX 78705. Dance instruction will be by Gaby Thompson. Nick Ballarini will also be there for all your accordion and accessory needs.
