Sephardic Crossroads presents music rarely heard in Austin from the Jewish community that was forced to leave Spain and Portugal in 1492. The songs and people sought survival in places including Turkey, Greece, The Balkans, and North Africa, and eventually in North America. This music from the Middle Ages evolved to include not only the Judeo – Spanish traditions, but also the flavors and styles of the countries where these populations settled. This blending of cultures has been transmitted through generations. Michelle Alany and Nefesh Joykestra will be sharing this beautiful and timeless Sephardic music, with an emphasis on songs from The Balkans and The Middle East, many of which are sung in Ladino (a Judeo- Spanish language.)   All are Welcome!
