Dr. Michael Schmidt will discuss his new research on the history of Western Swing in Austin between 1940 and 1955 and recent additions to its exhibit on dance bands and Swing in Austin (1929-46). After the update, he and Joe Dobbs, musician and librarian, will interview Dan Foster about the Texas fiddle tradition and Mr.

Texas Folklife announces the opening of the exhibit La Música. La Música features paintings by Roel Flores, an artist from Weslaco, Texas. La Música centers on the musical symbols and icons of Tejano music. There are portraits of Tejano legends Flaco Jimenez and Valerio Longoria along with landscapes of the Rio Grande Valley sprinkled with accordions. Flores love of music began when he was only 6 years old and has stayed with him throughout his life.
