2018 Stories Summer Institute Re-Cap


After a week of hard work, the 2018 Summer Institute concluded with a listening party on June 28th at the Worker's Defense Project. The venue was packed with people coming to hear our participants' podcasts chronicling stories and folklore related to this year's theme of Immigration and Labor.

Over the course of a week, the participants worked with our Stories From Deep in the Heart Program Dirctor, Bryan Griffith, as well as a special guest instructor, Suzy Seriff (PhD), in an intensive workshop to learn how to produce audio documentaries. The participants worked in groups to research a story, interview cultural workers and storytellers, record narrations with audio engineer Dave Alvarez at KUT 90.5FM, and craft the finished interviews into a broadcast-quality public radio documentary.
