The Texas Folklife Community Folklife Fellowship program is a statewide, NEA-supported pilot program that provides training in oral history, interviewing, audio storytelling, archives, and podcast production for adults. Participants learn to document community traditions in their own cities and towns throughout the state, through workshops and community partnerships. The program seeks applicants from diverse regions and communities of the state of Texas.
Fellows will receive a stipend and free training in oral history, produce a documentary podcast episode, and teach a community workshop in their region. The program seeks participants from the diverse regions and communities of the state of Texas. 8 participants will be selected from across the state.

This six-month program will run from March 15th, 2022 through September 15th, 2022.
Workshops will begin on March 19th.
- Funding

Stipend: $1,200
Project & Equipment Funds: $500 in project funds + up to $250 in reimbursement for project equipment
Software: All fellows will receive access to Hindenburg for audio editing and Descript for transcription
- Workshops & Meetings

First Workshop: March 19th
Workshops will take place once per month on a Saturday morning over Zoom
Participants will also have a monthly virtual cohort meeting and the option to meet with instructors/mentors during a regular virtual "office hour"
Additional tech workshops may take place on weekends or evenings

Each fellow will produce a documentary podcast episode, which Texas Folklife will distribute through our website, Soundcloud, and PRX as part of a new podcast series. Each Fellow will also create a blog post for their project and teach a workshop for community members in their region. This fellowship will require a consistent commitment and independent work. Expect to spend 10-20 hours per month on this project, outside of workshops.
