Despite a long history of programming and strong city, local and grassroots folk arts initiatives across the state, Texas has never truly had an organized statewide folk and traditional arts infrastructure.  We believe this is needed in order to adequately serve the diverse regions of our state and strengthen the folk and traditional arts for years to come. This first convening will occur in Austin on September 19th, 2019. We would greatly appreciate your attendance and participation in shaping the folk & traditional arts in the Lone Star State!

The convening will include TCA, Texas Folklife, and a host of Texas-based folklorists, folk artists, and grassroots community and folk arts organizations who are relatively new or with whom we have an established history of public programming. This meeting will provide the opportunity to meet other organizations across the state to discuss strategies to strengthen folk and traditional arts in Texas, as well as discuss issues and strategies with a diverse range of participants representing the entire state.
