In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, and in adherence to CDC and local health authority guidelines, we canceled all scheduled Texas Folklife live events, performances and gallery operations until further notice. Even while physically distant, we can still celebrate art and culture together. Currently we are moving to digital platforms and are in the process of offering virtual activities:
- Producing our first virtual concert on May 1 for the annual Big Squeeze competition.
- Hosting livestream Folk & Traditional Arts Roundtable Discussions with local, state and national artists and artists administrators every Monday
- Organizing an online exhibit titled Stitched Stories of Texas Quilters this summer
- Offering a Resource Guide for Artists & Organizations
Each year, Texas Folklife works with diverse communities across Texas to celebrate the shared traditions that so inextricably unite us. As we navigate the uncertain days ahead, we believe that the folk and traditional arts, along with our collective cultural expression are more important than ever. Thus, we are currently exploring alternative strategies to support the creative community and offer programming to help us all stay connected.
Part of what your donation will make possible:
- The 14th Anniversary of the Big Squeeze, a youth Accordion contest (this is the first time we are producing this event virtual!)
- Digital workshops and resources
- Artist fees, including local artisans and musicians
- Offsetting an lost income from live events and performances
Additionally, the Texas Folklife physical office closed beginning Tuesday, March 17 and the team is working remotely until further notice. You may leave us a voicemail and reach our team via email during this time.
We will share updates as they arise via email, social media and our website. Take care out there — of yourselves and each other.
And, as always, we thank you for your support.
