Apprenticeship Webinar Recap

On Monday, November 29th, 2022 the Texas Folklife Apprenticeship Team along with special guest and former Apprenticeship participant, Craig Jones, held a pre-application webinar for the 2022 Apprenticeship Program.

This pre-application webinar covered the ins and outs of the Texas Folklife Apprenticeships in the Folk & Traditional Arts Program including the nature of the program, the program guidelines and requirements, and how to navigate and complete the print and online application form.

At the end of the webinar, special guest Craig Jones shared invaluable application tips and insight into his experience as an apprentice with master accordionist, Ed Poullard.

Since 1987, Texas Folklife's Apprenticeship Program has supported 369 folk and traditional artists pass on and learn a diverse range of art forms practiced in communities across Texas. The annual program provides awards up to $3,000 to approximately eight artist mentors, ensuring the opportunity for them to offer one-on-one training in art, cultural, or heritage practices to dedicated apprentices for up to eight months.

Texas Folklife welcomes applicants from traditions and culture bearers of all Texas-based folk and traditional arts or practices.

Mentor and Apprentice teams should apply to the program together using our print/digital PDF application forms or the new online application.

All applicants are welcome to contact the Texas Folklife Apprenticeship team at apprenticeships@texasfolklife.org to discuss their proposals and work samples.
