The Festival of Texas Fiddling is coming up in just a couple of days at Twin Sisters Dance Hall in Blanco, and it is starting to generate the kind of interest it should.
Mark Rubin, the multiinstrumentalist and all around guru of Texas music, hasa great blog post about the festival and its import. Mark knows much better than most the significance of the fiddle traditions presented in the festival. He has recorded with most of the musicians and generally has been a critical representative of the traditional musical cultures we are highlighting in this festival. He certainly is a key linchpin in the whole traditional music ecosystem in the state. I am tempted to say more but why not just go read this excellent post for yourself.
Texas Highways magazine also just ran a nice piece on the festival (with some good quotes from Cristina too)
