Texas Folklife friend and photographer Chuy Benitez was featured in the New York Times Blog LENS. We have featured Chuys' work in some of our most memorable exhibits like Taquerias of Southmost & Yard Art, as well as hosted his show "Pasatiempos de la Frontera" at our Austin,TX gallery. Most recently he photographed for our NEA funded foodways project in West Texas and is currently featured in the Bronx Documentary Center's "Miradas: Contemporary Mexican Photographers".

Last Friday, the Stories Producing Team (Marcelo, Brian and Michelle) along with Texas Folklife's Charlie Lockwood & Executive Director Cristina Balli gathered at the Martin Middle School Library located in East Austin. We completed a semester residency in Ms. Karydas' Enrichment class and last Friday we listened to the final stories. The students successfully crafted audio documentaries about Martin Middle School and the surrounding neighborhood. Topics ranged from volleyball to ghosts, to Flea Markets-the students were surprised when they realized Ms.

Jonathan Cronin is a senior at Texas State University and will earn his Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology in May 2014. With all other coursework completed, Jonathan is excited to be serving as a Program & Events intern for Texas Folklife this Spring.

This Fall the Stories Team has put its equipment and audio skills into the hands and hearts of two classrooms on the east side of Austin!
