In the mid-1990s, a strong desire within the Austin community for an Asian American Resource Center (AARC) emerged. The AARC's mission is to provide public resources, collaborative and educational programming, and a cultural destination that enrich the lives of Austin’s Asian and Asian American community.  The vision is to build a resource center that will increase commerce and showcase the best of Asian/Asian American culture, allowing the community to educate, congregate, and celebrate its heritage.

Additionally, the center will serve as an economic and educational catalyst for the region.
