Roots and Rhythms Workshop Series | Folk Music and Instruments

Explore the sounds of Texas through workshops with musicians in conjunto, mariachi, blues, and Indigenous traditions, plus demonstrations of instrument making and care (such as bajo sexto, fiddle, and hand drums). The session concludes with an interactive jam, inviting participants to try rhythms and join in.


About Roots & Rhythms Workshop Series

Texas Folklife and the Latino Cultural Center present Roots and Rhythms, a hands-on workshop series celebrating Texas folk and traditional arts.

Each session highlights culture bearers and artists who share the stories, sounds, movement, and visual traditions passed down through families and communities.

Participants will listen, learn, and create together through demonstrations, guided activities, and welcoming opportunities to join in. All ages are welcome, and no prior experience is needed.

Explora los sonidos de Texas a través de talleres con músicos de conjunto, mariachi, blues y tradiciones indígenas, además de demostraciones de fabricación y cuidado de instrumentos (como el bajo sexto, el violín y los tambores de mano). La sesión concluye con una jam session interactiva, en la que se invita a los participantes a probar ritmos y unirse a la música.

Acerca de la serie de talleres Raíces y Ritmos

Texas Folklife y el Centro Cultural Latino presentan Roots and Rhythms, una serie de talleres prácticos que celebran las artes populares y tradicionales de Texas.

Cada sesión destaca a portadores de la cultura y artistas que comparten las historias, los sonidos, los movimientos y las tradiciones visuales transmitidas a través de las familias y las comunidades.

Los participantes escucharán, aprenderán y crearán juntos a través de demostraciones, actividades guiadas y oportunidades acogedoras para participar. Todas las edades son bienvenidas y no se necesita experiencia previa.
