
Danny began playing professionally at the age of 15. Danny began playing full-time with Texas Dutchmen in 1980. He played 18 years with Harry Czarnek and the Texas Dutchmen and played with Harry’s touring band when they traveled out of the State of Texas. He came back to the band after Harry’s passing in 2009 to help keep Harry’s authentic sound that made Harry Czarnek and the Texas one of the popular bands in Texas for more than 50 years. In 1997 Danny and his brother-in-law David Slovak started their band Czech and Then Some. Czech and Then Some will be celebrated their 28th anniversary in 2025. Czech and Then Some is a family band and help keeping polka music alive with the younger generation. His son Josh, 29, has been playing in the band full time since he was 16. Danny also started the Texas Tribute Band in 2009 to pay tribute to some of the great bands of yesteryear, Ernie Kucera, Six Fat Dutchmen, Whoopee John, Hi Toppers, Ron Nadherny, and Al Grebnick as well as others. Danny has helped many other bands throughout the years, Ernie Kucera, Dean Hanson, Jim Bochnicek, Leo Lonnie Orchestra, Jodie Mikula Orchestra as well as many other bands.
Czech and Then Some has 9 recordings on CD. Czech and Then Some has traveled throughout the Midwest including, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin as well all over Texas playing many Polka Festivals. In 2012 Czech and Then Some was chosen by the Czech Embassy to represent the Czechs of the United States to performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing Arts in Washington D.C. for The Music of Budapest, Prague, and Vienna. Once again in 2014 the band was asked to play at the Czech Embassy for their EU Open House. In 2018 the band made a 20-day tour of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria. In 2023, Czech and Then Some made their second tour of the Czech Republic, performing throughout the Pardubice Region. The band has taken several cruises throughout the years including with Jimmy Sturr and Mollie B. Then with the Polka Fest at Sea featuring Jodie Mikula Orchestra, Dujka Brothers and Czech and Then Some. Czech and Then Some is once again touring the Czech Republic in September 2025. Danny and his brother-in-law David Slovak have been recoding bands in the North Texas area since 1997 at Danny’s recording studio. They have recorded CDs for the following bands Czech and Then Some, Jodie Mikula Orchestra, St. John’s Czech Choir, Ennis Czech Boys, Kaluza Polka Band, Sonny Patalik and his Classic Combo Sounds, and the Moravians as well as a few bands from different music genre.
In 1967 Raymond Zapletal, Joe Liska, and Len Gehrig started the National Polka Festival which is a Czech Heritage festival. Danny became part of the NPF committee in June of 1991. He served as Vice President in 1992 and President in 1993. He became the Executive Director of the National Polka Festival in 1999 and served as the Executive Director until he retired in 2016 after celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the National Polka Festival and still serves on the committee as an adviser and Vice President of Foreign affairs, works on securing sponsors for the National Polka Festival, and bringing polka bands from out of state to the festival. The National Polka Festival is one of the largest Czech Heritage festivals in the United States. Danny has worked with many other organizations to help promote our Czech heritage. He served on the committee which brought the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic H.E Karel Schwarzenberg to Ennis. Danny was responsible for bringing Eva Adam’s Česká Kapela from the Czech Republic tour of Texas in 2018. Danny has also served on the Ennis Czech Music Festival committee since its inception in 2008. Danny has helped bring bands from out of state to play and tour Texas. Danny was responsible for bringing Pardubická Muzika to Texas from the Czech Republic in 2022 and 2024.
Danny started as a polka DJ in 2010 on WRJQ and on KBEC 1390 AM/ 99.1 FM in Waxahachie, Texas in 2013. Danny is still the host of the KBEC Polka Party every Sunday morning from 10 AM until noon.
Danny was chosen as the first Trustee for the International Polka Association serving Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana (Southwest Region) since November of 2015. He has held a fundraiser dance at different locations in the State of Texas raising money for the IPA HOF. The fundraising dance was held every January 2016 through 2020 during Polka Month to help promote different genres of polka music and promote the IPA and help try to gain new members in Texas and throughout the Southwest Region.
