The 36th Blueberry Festival: Texas Folklife Blueberry Jam

  • By Mariela Freire
  • 317 E Main St, Nacogdoches, TX 75961

Bring the whole family and join Texas Folklife for an afternoon of music and tradition during the 36th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival in downtown Nacogdoches.

While the festival fills the historic square with blueberries, food, and fun all day, we are setting up inside historic Mast Hall, a 1908 landmark, for a few hours of live music and good company. Master Cajun accordionist Jude Moreau headlines, joined by Texas Soul-Americana musician Kelvin Thomas, for a relaxed, toe-tapping afternoon you will not want to miss.

About the Performers

Kelvin Thomas is a Texas-born singer-songwriter whose music blends soul, rock, and blues with heartfelt storytelling rooted in lived experience. Raised in a musical family, he discovered his passion for music at eight years old and later moved to Dallas, becoming a fixture in the local scene while sharing stages with Leon Bridges. His latest singles, “Got You Baby” and “Need Me, Call Me,” have gained momentum with airplay on KXT 91.7 and recognition from The Dallas Observer. A former contestant on American Idol and winner of the 2019 Bluelight Songwriter Competition, Kelvin continues to refine his artistry. Through profound personal loss, including the passing of both parents, his music remains a reflection of resilience, hope, and passion. With releases spanning “Love, Faith, and Heartbreak” and “For Comfort,” Kelvin is steadily carving out his place in the Dallas–Fort Worth music scene while continuing to build a lasting artistic legacy statewide.

Jude Moreau has performed at numerous festivals in Texas and Louisiana. Most notable are the the Liberty Theater ( Cajun music Grand Old Opry ) in Eunice, Louisiana, Festival Acadian in Lafayette, Louisiana, the main stage at Mardi Gras Southeast Texas in Port Arthur, Texas, Accordion Kings for Texas Folklife in Houston, Texas, and the The Isleton Crawdad Festival in Isleton, California. Jude Moreau has been performing the music of our Cajun heritage for over 40 years. Jude is a recording artist and has recorded a 45 RPM record in 1984, and two full length C/D albums, ” Retourner au Les Vieux Temps” ( Return to the Old Times ) in 2002 and ” Le Deux Violons” ( The Two Violins ) featuring his original song ” La Valse de Pecaniere”. Joining Jude for this event is Jed Bellott, playing rhythm guitar and Donovan Borque playing fiddle. Both Jed and Donavan are accomplished musicians/performers and play multiple instruments. Jed is an accomplished accordion player and plays the fiddle and guitar. Donovan, the youngest of todays group, plays accordion, fiddle, guitar, pedal steel guitar and drums. It is our honor and pleasure to be working with Texas Folklife again.
