Call for Artisans
Threads of Tradition Festival
March 28, 2026
ACE Center, Edinburg, Texas

Texas Folklife invites women artisans from the Rio Grande Valley and across Texas to apply to participate in Threads of Tradition, a one-day celebration of art, culture, and living tradition held before The Big Squeeze Youth Accordion Competition.

We are seeking artists and tradition bearers working in:

• Fiber arts and textile traditions
• Herbal and plant-based practices
• Painting and visual arts
• Woodworking and handcraft
• Traditional foodways
• Embroidery and beadwork
• Cultural crafts and community-rooted art forms

Selected artisans will:

• Showcase and sell their work
• Receive a stipend
• Include an interactive component such as a demonstration, hands-on activity, or storytelling element that engages the public

Threads of Tradition centers the creativity and leadership of women whose work reflects the cultural richness of South Texas and beyond. This is an opportunity to share your craft, connect with community, and contribute to a celebration of heritage and innovation.

Festival Threads of Tradition

Texas Folklife invita a mujeres artesanas del Valle del Río Grande y de todo Texas a postularse para participar en Threads of Tradition, una celebración de un día dedicada al arte, la cultura y las tradiciones vivas, que se llevará a cabo antes de la Competencia Juvenil de Acordeón Big Squeeze.

Buscamos artistas y portadoras de tradición que trabajen en:

• Artes textiles y fibras
• Prácticas herbolarias y saberes de plantas
• Pintura y artes visuales
• Carpintería y trabajo artesanal en madera
• Tradiciones culinarias
• Bordado y trabajo con chaquira
• Artes y oficios culturales arraigados en la comunidad

Las artesanas seleccionadas podrán:

• Exhibir y vender su trabajo
• Recibir un estipendio
• Incluir un componente interactivo como una demostración, actividad práctica o espacio de diálogo que involucre al público

Threads of Tradition destaca la creatividad y el liderazgo de mujeres cuyo trabajo refleja la riqueza cultural del Sur de Texas y más allá. Es una oportunidad para compartir su arte, fortalecer lazos con la comunidad y formar parte de una celebración que honra la herencia cultural y la innovación.
