Texas Folklife Welcomes Ariel M. Cooksey as Grants & Development Strategist

Texas Folklife announces the addition of Ariel M. Cooksey, M.A., as Grants & Development Strategist. Cooksey brings more than ten years of experience in program development, evaluation, and cross-sector collaboration, strengthening the organization’s capacity to support artists, tradition bearers, and community partners across Texas.
With a graduate degree in Sociology and a background in trauma-informed education and family-centered systems, Cooksey specializes in translating complex community needs into clear, outcomes-driven grant proposals. Her work has supported initiatives in education, cultural competency, and community resilience, with a focus on building sustainable programs that reflect community knowledge and lived experience.
In her role, Cooksey will work closely with staff, artists, and partners to secure funding that advances Texas Folklife’s mission to document, present, and celebrate the living cultural traditions of Texas. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, careful listening, and storytelling as tools for strengthening both programs and relationships.
