Embodied Artifacts: the stories in our bones
We all have special objects we care for; we give them shelter, we wear them, we dust and display them, we keep them safe in protected places. These objects represent feelings we hold for certain memories, or they carry a story of something or someone significant, and perhaps they may represent hope for something we are still trying to reach.
This free workshop will invite participants to investigate storytelling that begins at an internal site within our bodies; stories from the inside out.
When: May 2, 2026 – 3-6 pm, 2-hour workshop with a 1-hour sharing = 3 hours of your time (light snack will be provided)
Where: International Folk Culture Center, 411 SW 24th St.
What to Bring:
- bring an artifact, something that is special to you, something that has a known story or holds the potential for revealing a good story.
- Bring water or some kind of hydration
What to Expect:
- We will begin with introductions and then move to grounding and settling into the space
- I will guide participants through a warmup to begin accessing awareness to our bodies and our environment.
- We will learn how to intentionally communicate with our bodies and practice listening for responses as well.
- There will be a series of guided movement explorations or scores with your artifact, followed by writing from the body
- We will have one 30-minute break and will finish with storytelling time and another break with more snacks.
No experience is required however, please bring a curiosity for embodied experience and for developing awareness of and with your body and the stories you hold within them.
