Passing It On: Documentation, Preservation, Presentation
For generations, Texas has carried its stories, songs, and skills forward not through institutions alone, but through people — a master artist teaching an apprentice, a grandmother’s recipe becoming a family’s foodway, a song passed from porch to porch until it belonged to an entire community. Texas Folklife exists to protect that transmission, and Friends of Texas Folklife is how we invite you to be part of it.
Every gift, at every level, goes directly toward sustaining the people and practices that make Texas culture what it is — funding apprenticeships between master artists and the next generation, supporting young accordionists at the Big Squeeze, documenting traditions before they’re lost, bringing creativity to older Texans, and telling these stories through MOSAIC. When you give, you become part of the chain that keeps tradition alive — you become a Friend of Texas Folklife, standing with the artists, elders, and communities who carry Texas forward.
