Texas Folklife Presents: Salon Sessions at Batch
Featuring Gaiteros All Stars

Join Texas Folklife for an evening of music, stories, and cultural connection at Salon Sessions at Batch, a series celebrating folk and traditional arts in Austin.

On Tuesday, September 30 from 7–9 PM, we welcome Gaiteros All Stars, a dynamic ensemble based in Austin specializing in the rich and vibrant sounds of traditional music from Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Their repertoire includes gaita, bullerengue, tambora, and vallenato, offering audiences a deep dive into Colombia’s cultural heritage. Recognized internationally, Gaiteros All Stars captivate listeners with their ability to share these unique musical styles across borders and generations.

This special performance will also highlight the artistry of:

  • Damián Bossio, a traditional gaita player and cultural manager from Colombia. A former member of UNESCO-recognized Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Damián has dedicated his career to teaching, preserving, and performing the music of the Colombian Caribbean.

  • Edwin Hernández, a Colombian percussionist and gaita player, celebrated for his work with the internationally acclaimed ensemble Totó la Momposina y sus Tambores. Edwin’s performances and teaching projects create bridges between Afro-Colombian traditions and contemporary audiences around the world.

Each Salon Session begins with a short talk offering cultural and historical context, followed by a live performance by local and international tradition bearers. Whether you are a longtime fan or new to these art forms, this series invites you to listen, learn, and connect through music and movement.
