Juan Longoria Jr. is a Texas-Mexican Conjunto accordionist. Juan, inspired by his father and uncles, co-founded two musical groups, Los Potrillos (1998) and Conteño (2008), alongside his brother Federico. Hailing from Brownsville, Texas, Conteño combines Conjunto, Tejano, and Norteño styles, creating an energetic, modern take on traditional Texas-Mexican music.

Juan won Texas Folklife’s “The Big Squeeze” accordion competition in 2007 and was featured in the 2008 documentary of the same name. In 2012, he founded the most successful conjunto music program in Texas at Los Fresnos High School. In 2017, the Texas Senate honored the program for preserving Texas folk music. Juan and Conteño have performed at folk festivals around the country. Juan also works to support various programs with Texas Folklife and in 2024 was named an inaugural fellow for the Taproot Artists and Community Trust Program of the Alliance for California Traditional Arts.
