Calling All Young Accordionists: The Big Squeeze 2025 Applications Are Now Open!

Texas Folklife is thrilled to announce that applications for The Big Squeeze 2025 are officially open! This annual statewide competition celebrates the rich accordion traditions of Texas and provides young musicians an opportunity to showcase their talent, connect with peers, and compete for the title of Big Squeeze Champion.

If you’re a budding accordionist with a passion for conjunto, polka, Cajun, or zydeco music, this is your chance to shine! Applications are due by February 15, 2025—so don’t wait to apply.

Application Checklist

To ensure your application is complete, please provide the following:

  1. Completed 2025 Application
    • Part 1: General information and required forms
    • Part 2: Upload media and performance materials
  2. Headshot
    • Submit a clear, high-quality photo with the file name:
      FirstName_LastName_Headshot
    • Choose a plain background or natural outdoor setting, free from distractions.
  3. Performance Video
    • Submit a 2-4 minute performance video with the file name:
      FirstName_LastName_Video
    • Your performance may include a bajo sexto if desired. Ensure the audio is clear and free of background noise.
  4. Media Release Form (Part 1)
  5. W-9 Form
    • Download and complete via the link provided on the application page.
  6. Direct Deposit Form (Part 1)
