A Folklife Friendsgiving

A Folklife Friendsgiving

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a unique Texan twist on the classic Friendsgiving gathering? At Texas Folklife, we cherish our cultural heritage, and that includes adding a dash of Lone Star State flair to our Friendsgiving festivities.
This year, consider hosting a special Friendsgiving event that brings together friends and families to celebrate the spirit of gratitude and togetherness while highlighting the rich cultural traditions that make Texas so special.

A Texas-Sized Feast:
Of course, no Friendsgiving is complete without a feast, and a Texas Folklife inspired Friendsgiving will be no exception. We suggest combining classic seasonal dishes with Texan favorites to create a mouthwatering spread that satisfies both hunger and nostalgia. Picture smoked turkey with a hint of mesquite, cornbread stuffing with a Tex-Mex kick, and sweet potato pie with a pecan twist. And, yes, make sure there is plenty of gravy to go around!

Music and Dancing:
What’s a Texas Folklife gathering without some toe-tapping tunes? This year, add live music featuring local musicians who will showcase Texas’s diverse musical traditions. From country to Tejano to Zydeco, your Friendsgiving will be filled with the sounds that make our state’s culture so unique. And for those who feel like dancing off that extra slice of pie, keep the dance floor open.

Storytelling and Sharing:
Texas Folklife is all about preserving and celebrating the stories and traditions that make our state so special. During your Friendsgiving, encourage your guests to share their own holiday traditions and stories, creating a beautiful tapestry of cultural experiences. From stories of food traditions in Texas to family recipes passed down for generations, make it a meaningful way to connect with one another and learn more about our shared Texan heritage.

Giving Back:
Friendsgiving isn’t just about indulging in delicious food and enjoying good company; it’s also about giving back to the community. At Texas Folklife, we’re committed to making a positive impact in our state. Consider facilitating a food drive to support local families in need during the holiday season. Encourage your guests to share their generosity by contributing to your food drive.
Mark Your Calendars for Next Year (November 2024)

We hope your Texas Folklife inspired Friendsgiving was a reminder of the power of community, culture, and tradition. We can’t wait to host our inaugural Friendsgiving event next year and hope you will join us to celebrate our Texan heritage.
Whether you’re a Texan by birth, by choice, or by heart, Texas Folklife is a place where everyone is welcome. We believe that celebrating our cultural diversity enriches our lives and builds connections among us. Keep an eye out for next year’s Friendsgiving celebration – it’s a Texan experience you won’t want to miss!
From all of us at Texas Folklife, we wish you a warm and joyful holiday season, filled with good food, great company, and a little bit of Texan spirit.
