Thank you for your interest in participating in the 20th Anniversary of The Big Squeeze Accordion Contest, presented by Texas Folklife. We are excited to welcome you to one of the most important youth and young adult accordion competitions in the country. A program dedicated to honoring tradition, spotlighting talent, and cultivating the next generation of Texas accordion stars.
Launched in 2006, The Big Squeeze has served as a statewide platform for youth and young adult accordionists across a variety of cultural genres including Zydeco, Cajun, Polka, Conjunto, Tejano, and Classical. For two decades, the Big Squeeze has helped launch the musical journeys of many young musicians who have gone on to record, tour, teach, amplify, advocate and carry their traditions forward.
As we celebrate our 20th year in 2026, we are proud to introduce new enhancements to the program including a restructured application process, updated performance expectations, and the formation of the Texas Folklife Accordion Music Advisory Council a group of tradition bearers and genre experts who will help steward the future of the Big Squeeze. We thank you for joining us in this historic moment, and we look forward to witnessing your talent, energy, and dedication throughout this year’s journey.
